AI Detection Accuracy and Limitations — TextoLab

No text-only AI detector can determine authorship with certainty.

A pattern score, not a probability

TextoLab analyzes statistical and structural writing patterns. The AI Writing Score measures how strongly those patterns appear; it is not a verified probability that AI wrote the sample.

What the detector considers

  • Variation in sentence and paragraph shape.
  • Vocabulary diversity and predictability proxies.
  • Repeated phrases, openings, and structural templates.
  • Transition placement, punctuation, and cross-paragraph regularity.

False positives and false negatives

Human writing can score high, and AI-generated writing can score low. Formal, technical, highly structured, translated, non-native, or educational writing can influence metrics. Edited AI text and mixed workflows can behave differently.

Sample length matters

Short samples contain too little evidence for stable comparisons. TextoLab warns when a sample is below the recommended size and scales its confidence conservatively.

Responsible use

Use the report as writing-pattern feedback and review the findings in context. Never use one score as proof or as the sole basis for high-impact decisions. TextoLab does not perform plagiarism checking or internet-wide comparison.
